Fit out for dental lab
When the woodworker and business owner, Aviv, received a call from Race Dental in Grey Lynn to help with the fit-out for their new dental lab, he jumped at the challenge.
They were at the stage when they wanted to expand and finally have lab furniture that meets all their needs.
They showed the space that they had, and started working on the vision.
Being able to move along the work desk with no obstacle underneath was a key consideration – there was no existing product on the market that met the business’ needs.
“We looked all over the world and couldn’t find a design that ticked all the boxes.’’ says Aviv. ‘‘The only option for them was to have something custom-made…and that’s when the journey began.’’
Being a large clinic, Aviv needed to find a way to maximise bench space, with the ultimate aim of creating a functional, hygienic and efficient work environment.
Aviv met with key lab members to understand their requirements in depth, observed lab technicians’ work, and when he proposed the design, it was accepted with enthusiasm.
The entire bench is made up of 15 HPL (Futura) table sheets (35mm thick), but they are connected together to create one big floating piece.
Brackets were used to stabilise the benchtops and remove the need for table legs. As well as making it easier to move around, the fit out is designed to make the task of cleaning up a breeze.
The brackets also doubled as an effective cable management system. Rather than having messy chords around the room, holes were drilled into the brackets so the chords can just slide through them.
Once the concept was firmed up, Aviv approached Cutshop® with the designs.
Aviv says Cutshop® knowledge and expertise was invaluable throughout the process. From concept to completion, the job was completed in a matter of weeks, despite having a COVID-19 outbreak within the team.
Having now completed work on the fit-out, Aviv is now fielding calls from other dental labs wanting a similar design.
